The Immigration Act Is A Defining Moment That Changed Us...

The 1965 Amendment to the Immigration Act was a defining moment that radically changed US immigration policy and provided the basis for all that we have witnessed today with its far reaching consequences. Before 1965, the national origins quotas, which heavily favored British, German, and Irish immigrants, was replaced with a less discriminatory system (Hatton, 2015). Many decades following the enactment of this law saw a dramatic rise in the total number of immigrants, and an equally dramatic switch in the source-country composition away from Europe, towards Asia and Latin America. Contemporary legislators may have anticipated some of these effects, but the changes in the scale and structure of immigration, and the speed with which they took place, were not foreseen. It might be correctly stated that the consequences were largely unintended. Among such consequences is the attendant rise in criminality among immigrant population. Concerns about the connection between immigration and crime have a long-standing history in the United States, dating back to colonial times. Increased immigration was believed to be associated with increased criminal activity† (Immigration and Crime, 2009). In recent years, concerns about negative consequences of immigration to the United States have been based on the assumption that immigrants have caused many social problems to U.S. society, including changing the American ways of life, depleting welfare resources, increasing unemployment amongShow MoreRelatedAn Age Of Mass Migration And International Terrorism1715 Words   |  7 Pagesdomestic public policy and continue to constitute the criteria by which policy success is judged. The Learn About the Different Ideas and Aspects of Taylorism

Question: Would workers in Australia, America or Europe accept the Taylorism in this form today? Answer: Introducation Management is an essential part of any organization. The science of managing things is also called Taylorism. He was the one to introduce the different levels of hierarchy in the organization and introduced the training of skill in a fresh employee to do work (Kanigel, 2007). Anyone who could not meet the higher standards of expertise got fired. Taylorism is a part of almost every industry. However, the workers today, with the freedom to rise voice and question decisions, the organizations today need to be flexible with its workforce. In the big giant companies of Australia, America or Europe, their employees are their assets and when you well take care of your asset, they give better results than required for they feel valued, which keeps them motivated to deliver better results for the company to grow (Tamura, 2006). The workers have not imposed decisions, the company and employee work together reflecting teamwork for its success, sharing common interests. Labour laws have given the authority to workers today to question any inappropriate behaviour towards them by anyone in an organization (Tamura, 2006). Taylorism in a call center has limited influence and in some organizations decreasing with time. The initial stage to employ at a call center is similar to Taylors theory of hiring. Only small organizations have Taylorism ethics being followed even today. As far as the call center script is concerned, only the centres selling a product have monotonous kind of script (Chapman, 2012). The call centres that provide customer service or support deal though have a set procedure to be followed, however, behind every call attended, the idea is nothing but a customer ending or disconnecting a call with a smile (Chapman, 2012). Further, the quality management work on anything that could have been done to improve the conversation or to make the call small and effective. Not that I can think of anything or any area today where Taylorism needs to be implemented. It has its presence in every field, department, and organization. At the hiring level, hiring untrained people and giving them the expertise to perform a certain task (Kanigel, 2007). His other belief of simplifying a job is well done and with great work comes great incomes are still part of some small organizations. The time motion study by Taylor stated some people do work more efficiently than others (Kanigel, 2007). According to him, there is only one way to do a task, which is so incorrect, a task can be done in any way according to an individual's own mindset. Activity 2; Week 2; Pankaj Ghemawat on Globalisation The word globalization means that the trade, economy, communication and finances local or national or cross borders are integrated (Servitje and Ghemawat, 2013). It refers to any kind of exchange happening across national borders. According to few theorist globalizations, starting from countries came to companies and has now narrowed individuals. An Iron law is one which is what can be done will be done either by you or through you. As a common man, I would quite agree with such definition of globalization. For every person, today has internet access (Bhattacharyya and j, 2017). And everyone is doing an exchange of ideas, thoughts, services and goods nationally as well as globally. The exposure is vast because everything is available online to explore and gain information about. However, after listening to Pankaj Ghemawat on Globalisation and the data presented, one realizes that actually we are not even globalized up to 10%. A country like China banned a global search engine, Google, in their country (Bhattacharyya and j, 2017). China would always manufacture whatever it needs. It exports products across the globe, but never imports anything. Even for that matter, America has outsourced business for cheaper l abour, but hasnt hired cheaper labour to work to be taken to America (Servitje and Ghemawat, 2013). Ghemawat has described the actual picture with data and the difference between imaginary figures of globalization as Globaloney (Walters, Cucinotta and May, 2017). People today, rather than buying things cross-border, search for cheaper local options available for sale. This gives them better returns of the product. The facts discussed while discussing Globalizations by Prof. Ghemawat, French thought they had 24% immigrants, however, the actual picture is actually 8%. Due to which they fear and always feared immigration issue (Walters, Cucinotta and May, 2017). The second example is that Americans assumed that foreign aid of more than 30% is received by them, however, it is about 1% (Walters, Cucinotta and May, 2017).Ghemawat suggested that after learning the actual figures from data, the investor dares to invest that when some people hear the real number, theyre encouraged to invest more. This is a good thing and can aim to have an enormous effect (Servitje and Ghemawat, 2013). Another such example of an economy fearing Globalisation is Jamaica. The trade of Jamaica had great influence of its government on it and it decreased to a big level (Servitje and Ghemawat, 2013). When Jamaica borrowed loan from UN, the things changed but is for the worse. The people were restricted for the purchase of goods and other things and its dependency on America increased. Cambodia also after stepping into world market had to face serious shrinkage. It became money driven, politicians became corrupt and money started outward flowing. It became nothing more than a manipulative, by richer countries becoming richer and poor poorer (Servitje and Ghemawat, 2013). We can say every country tries to the first search for things at their level or inside a country, however, then searching for an exporter who can buy the item, lending the exchange of money. Conclusion: In the article above we learned, Taylorism, its impact, pros, and cons, stating it to be nothing more than a form that made work monotonous and boring in call centers. Its importance in the times to come if any of the 21st-century workers. The second article discussed about the changes of idea after listening to the professor, the world is not flat by Pankaj Ghemawat. We talked about the impact/ fears of globalization faced by different countries, with this the data representation of globalization in actual. References Bhattacharyya, A. and j, A. An Examining Of The Great Commission Religion Essay Example Paper An Examining Of The Great Commission Religion Essay Introduction â€Å" God authorized and commanded me to committee you: Travel out and develop everyone you meet, far and close, in this manner of life, taging them by baptism in the treble name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then teach them in the pattern of all I have commanded you. Amen. â€Å" ( Matt 28:18-20 KJV ) Introduction An Examining Of The Great Commission Religion Essay Body Paragraphs The Gospel of Matthew ends Jesus meeting with His apostles in Galilee. This was a particular meeting and would alter the class of universe history in many ways. The meeting was foretold by Jesus in Matthew 26:31-32: â€Å" 31 Then Jesus said to them, â€Å" You will all fall off because of me this dark. For it is written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered. ‘ 32 But after I am raised up, hello will travel before you to Galilee. â€Å" This meeting was announced both by an angel ( Matt 28:78 ) and Jesus Himself ( Matt28:10 ) . It was a meeting filled with assorted emotions. Some had run off and others had denied Him before His decease. Now He stood before them, alive. Their reaction was to bow down in worship ( Matt 28:16-17 ) I was a meeting in which Jesus gave His adherents a bid that we now refer to a the great committee. Person one time said that this was seen by many Christians as the great suggestion, but it is a bid that lie s at the bosom of the Church and from which she operates. The bid ends with the beautiful promise that He would ever be with them. This is non something to be ignored, but to be a changeless portion of the Church ‘s operation every bit good as that of every truster. I will be looking at what makes this committee so GREAT. I Great in its Authority We will write a custom essay sample on An Examining Of The Great Commission Religion Essay Example specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now We will write a custom essay sample on An Examining Of The Great Commission Religion Essay Example specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer We will write a custom essay sample on An Examining Of The Great Commission Religion Essay Example specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer To Jesus was given all authorization. As the Godhead, He is the One who has the original right to make all things: â€Å" For by1 him all things were created, in Eden and on Earth, seeable and unseeable, whether thrones or rules or swayers or authorities-all things were created through him and for him. And is before all things, and in him all things hold together. † ( Colossians 1:16-1 ) What higher authorization than the Godhead Himself to publish such a bid. As our Redeemer, this authorization is even more marked: â€Å" who, though he was in the signifier of God, did non number equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nil, taking the signifier of a retainer, being born in the similitude of work forces. And being found in human signifier, he humbled himself by going obedient to the point of decease, even decease on a cross. Therefore God has extremely exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every artic ulatio genus should bow, in Eden and on Earth and under the Earth, and every lingua confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glorification of God the Father. â€Å" ( Philippians2:6-11 ) Jesus has all authorization both in Eden and on Earth ( 1 Pet 1:1-5, Eph 1:20-23 ) . This is the authorization with which He speaks and this is the authorization to which we must respond. Cipher has a higher authorization. No authorities or organisation can in any manner cancel His authorization. There is no political system or doctrine that is above His authorization. The Bible ; e says that He is above all the male monarchs of the Earth ( Rev 1:5, Psa 2:1-12 ; 110:1-6 ) Jesus surely deserves our obeisance to Him. He is talking with an authorization that is above this universe. While worlds can be fallible, Jesus can and will present on His promises. Even His promises comes with the highest authorization ( 2 Pet 1:2-5 ) It is on the footing of such great authorization that Jesus give the great co mmittee. Not merely great in authorization, but besides great in mission. II Great in Mission The mission is the focal point, the way in which we must go. It is the mission that guides our wlak through life in obeisance to Jesus. We are to do adherents. The word used here is the Grecian word ‘Matheteuo ‘ which is defined as to go a student ; to disciple, i.e. enrol as bookman: — be disciple, instruct, Teach. We are to do scholars, disciples and impersonators of Jesus Christ. Even during His ministry on Earth, Jesus was continually ask foring people to go His adherents ( Matt 4:18-22 ; 11:28-30 ) . When ask foring them, He expected them to go like Him: â€Å" A adherent is non above his instructor, but everyone when he is to the full trained will be like his instructor. † ( Luke 6:40 ) Jesus tells us how to travel about doing adherents. He gives us non merely a bid, but besides the manner to obey that bid. First by baptising in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Baptism for the forgiveness of wickednesss ( Acts 2:38 ; 22:16 ) Baptism in H2O ( Acts 8:35-38 ; 10:47-48 ) A entombment of the old ( Rom 6:3-6 ; Col 2:11-12 ) Second by learning them to detect the things He taught and commanded. Baptism is merely the beginning. Teaching must go on afterwards. This was the instance with the early adherents ( Acts 2:41-42 ) . Jesus said that both baptism and ongoing instruction is what is indispensable to true discipleship. Not merely great in authorization, and great in mission, the great committee was besides great in range. III Great in Scope The bid was FOR ALL NATIONS. They were to travel into all the universe and preach to everyone ( Mark 16:15 ) . They were to be informants to the extreme parts of the Earth ( Acts 1:8 ) . They were to go forth no rock unturned so to talk. This was non limited to merely Israel as we find in Matthew 10, but to every state under the Sun. While Israel had been the focal point of God ‘s redemption program up to that point, now, with the work of Jesus on the cross, all states, Jews and non Jews could go fellow inheritors to the Kingdom of God ( Ephesians 2:11-22 ) . The nazarene wants us to believe globally, non merely locally. While we should non disregard our local community, we should besides believe of those outside our ain little universe. As human being we have a inclination to concentrate on our small world. We do non look outside of the few people we know or encounter each twenty-four hours, and that is where we start with the Gospel, but that is no where is should halt. The w ork of redemption is available to all God ‘s animals. All the assorted states are a portion of that creative activity and all have the redemption work of Jesus available to them as a gift of grace. The great committee has great authorization, is great in its mission, great in its range, and great in its promise. IV Great in its Promise Jesus said that He will ever be with us. This promise is similar to the 1 He made earlier to His apostles: â€Å" For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them. † ( Matthew 18:20 ) It is similar to a promise He made to those who follow His commandments: : â€Å" I will non go forth you as orphans ; I will come to you. Yet a small piece and the universe will see me no more, but you will see me. k Because I live, you besides will populate. In that twenty-four hours you will cognize that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me swill be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him. † Judas ( non Iscariot ) said to him, â€Å" Lord, how is it that you will attest yourself to us, and non to the universe? † A Jesus answered him, â€Å" If anyone loves me, he will maintain my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to h im and do our place with him. † ( John 14:18-2 ) It is a promise similar to the one God Gave to Moses ( Exo 3:11-12 ) Joshua ( Josh 1:5 ) The state of Israel ( Isa 41:10 ) I is a promise that provides comfort, particularly in times of subjugation ( Rom 8:31-38 ; Heb 13:5-6 ) This promise is besides to the terminal of clip. It extends even to when the great crop will happen ( Matt 13:39-43 ) . Throughout the Christian age, Jesus will everlastingly be with His adherents as they go into all the universe devising adherents. Through the Holy Spirit, we receive the necessary gifts to non merely promote each other, but besides to enable us to set the great committee into action. V Conclusion The great committee is non merely limited to the apostles. It is of import to observe that the adherents were to ‘observe all things that I commanded you ‘ . The adherents were besides to detect this bid along with all the other instructions of Jesus. The bid does non halt with the original adherents, but carries on until the terminal of clip. The great committee is a committee for the Church as good. The inquiry is whether we are honouring the great committee in our lives today. There are some things we can make to look into if we are: Are we subjecting to the authorization of Jesus? Are we working, in whatever capacity to do adherents of Jesus? Are we endeavoring to do adherents in all the states of the universe? Are we staying in His words and thereby doing certain His staying presence is in our lives? Shortly after Jesus gave the great committee, Jesus ascended into Eden. His earlier adherents took that committee and as a consequence did great things with it. As a con cluding word I would wish to add a verse form written by Greg Steir, which puts the focal point of our duty for the great committee into focal point: Do n’t Trouble oneself Me Do n’t trouble oneself me with psyches to salvage. I have my ain docket. There ‘s work to make, athleticss to play, Important things to go to to. Do n’t trouble oneself me with that small miss, The miss playing in the street. She ‘s much excessively immature to understand The Saviour she could run into Do n’t trouble oneself me with my friend at work. He ‘s got his ain faith. I do n’t hold clip to alter his head. He ‘ll do his ain determination. Do n’t trouble oneself me with the distant sounds I hear, The sound of people shouting. Although I wonder who they are. Who are these victims shrilling? Do n’t trouble oneself me with who they are. I truly do n’t desire the incrimination. For it ‘s the small miss and my friend at work Who from snake pit shriek out my name. . But do n’t trouble oneself me.

what is modern music essays

what is modern music essays The most important thing that was expressed about the definition of modern music is that the degree of modernism depends on the experience and taste of those whom are listening. This means that each person can have vastly different views on which musicians and what styles are considered modern, because the critique of all arts is merely opinion. The definition for modern in a dictionary is anything within the present. When discussing music the essay emphasized that modern music has other qualities than newness alone. To be considered modern music, it needs to alter in a varying degree from the traditions in material and in the style; it departs from previous conventions. In much of the essay, it is shown that modern music often experiences opposition. In the past, and even still the present, society and the music world initially reject modern music. In the essay music is described as a living language. When modern music is born it can also be considered as new way of expressing a new language. Music evolves just as language does. In the context of music, the grammar used in modern music is its harmony, melody, and rhythm that break all rules. Modern music uses foreign words and expressions that portray the ever-changing environment. There are many styles of music today that can fit the description of modern music. New Age, which often uses sounds of nature to create a melody, clearly has an original style. Hip-hop music is a fairly new form of expression, and when it first began it was rejected and misunderstood by the public. More recent, as it has become more accepted in society and the pace of rhythmic change is quickly altering, for the demand of the listeners. The style of jazz music has also changed a great deal compared to when first born. I feel that modern Jazz as opposed to old jazz is a good example of a new expression of a society in which we live. Lastly, techno, which is a fairly n...

Children and internet safety Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Children and internet safety - Research Paper Example The Internet assists us when we need it, but it also provides con artists and other predators into our children’s lives. We as parents have a moral obligation to protect our children against the devastating effects of what is available on the Internet. The difficulty remains, however, of how we assure our children’s safety. Parents are given charge of their children not merely through having created them. The want to protect and foster their children is an innate need that humans have. Therefore, it is imperative that parents not only monitor what their children view online, but whom they may be talking to. Given the capacity we now have to acquire data on any given subject, there are bound to be flaws in the system, as well as the ability to obtain information that most people would view as highly inappropriate. Violent episodes are abundant on the World Wide Web, from media accounts and vicious fighting, to â€Å"hate sites that encourage the discrimination of specif ic people. Data are lacking to illuminate how many youth are intentionally accessing violent websites.† (Hamburger, M. E., Ybarra, M. L., Leaf, P. J. and West, 2011). The trouble with children accessing violent sites are in the detriment that child can potentially incur. Children are effortlessly misled to believe what they see on television or the Internet is viable and useful information. However unfortunate, even Modi 1 The most well adjusted child’s psyche can fall prey to horrific scenes of violence, which can produce fear, anxiety and even anger. This can cause extensive harm to the child’s overall sense of self, and their well-being. ... Commercials of any kind are always aimed at a particular audience, whether it is an age group, gender, race or religion. In families that are tightly knit, parents often feel that they have greater control over their children, and what they view. They are often considered more attentive to their children and their activities as well, therefore giving them perceived control over their internet usage. This perception can actually be translated into reality in many cases. â€Å"†¦The higher perceived control over children’s Internet usage, the less children’s exposure to negative Internet content.† (Cheon, Hongsik John, 01 Dec. 2005) This should serve as an epiphany for any parent with concerns over what their children are viewing. Parents that question their children and what they observe on television and Internet have a propensity to implement more restrictions on their television and their computer. In today’s information age, even televisions are so ld with the ability to allow or disallow certain ratings of programs. This enables parents to preserve the naivete of their children even more. Frequently, adults view the Internet as a place for predators, namely pedophiles. Modi 2 A recent report states, â€Å"That there are an estimated one million pedophiles online.† (Descy, Don E., 2006) given those statistics, it is even more imperative that parents keep a dedicated eye on their children’s Internet accesses to prevent their child falling victim to an unscrupulous predator. Thankfully, there are people out there that have created programs to not only identify, but also capture pedophiles and prevent the victimization of children. One such program, called Perverted Justice (perverted-justice.com, 25 Feb. 2011)

Organizations today focus on value-creation rather than just short-term profitability. Competition has intensified in the UK fashion industry with the supermarkets entering the fashion segment. The consumers too have become price conscious and started looking towards the supermarket for discounts and bargains in the fashion sector. Supermarkets have been successful in extracting value from their existing customer base. Many high street retailers have lost out to supermarkets in the process (Hines, 2001). This has urged the high street retailers to rethink their marketing strategy to remain sustainable. Use of technology, getting the quality and design to match consumers’ desires, needs and tastes, adding value to the services, finding newer ways of reaching the consumer have made fashion marketing for high street retailers a challenge. Fashion leadership means to be a step ahead of competitors. The UK fashion retailers have been operating in an environment characterized by high levels of market concentration, centralized control and market standardization (Birtwistle & Freathy, 1998). Standardization resulted in lack of product differentiation and this led some retailers to bring about a shift in their marketing approach. The UK consumer market is divided between those who value product quality and those who value price. Violence in Films | Analysis

Violence in Films | Analysis Violence is an important part of films in order to depict the sensational and explicit appeal. Films under the genre of gangster and war featured violence as the central theme of the film. The featuring of violence in these movies had to be accounted and was justified rationally. During the world war 11, Hollywood and the OWI made films were in American involvement in that war was justified and every concept or task undertaken by them in the film was made justifiable. The Americans were shown as duty bound officers performing their duties, righteous heroes who were fighting against oppression and dictatorship. Americans were considered the heros as they possessed the right stuff that made them first in their own place. Some of the ways the justification was made were that of 1. Thematic justification: in this, the theme of the movie or the background will show social disorder and loss of control in the country, and war is used as a way to bring peace and order to that country. thus violence is justified as it is bringing social order and resulting in a positive outcome. 2. Violence as a necessary part of patriotism : all soldiers of war are shown and praised as heroes in the movies. thus during the time of war, fighting was seen as a way of expressing your patriotism for your country and the violence involved in fighting was seen as necessary part of being patriotic. 3. Ideological justification: the USA justified the violence and killing in war by providing ideological excuses such as we fight for the right to be free, we fight for democracy etc. 4. War as a rite of passage: under this justification, the hero or the character will be shown as an irresponsible, carefree teenager who goes to war to fight and learns the lessons of life there. after fighting in battles, the boy comes back home as a wise and mature man. thus violence is playing the role of a teacher, transforming juvenile boys into responsible citizens. and thus, violence is justified. 5. Alienation and dehumanizing the enemy : here, the enemy is not seen as human and is portrayed as evil and monstrous and thus killing them is justified. 6. Portrayal of hatred with the Japanese and likeness with the Chinese: Though the Japanese and Chinese look alike, Hollywood films only show hatred toward the Japanese and not the Chinese. this bias could be because china became part of the allied forces and the USA saw the Chinese as friends in the war. 7. Oversimplified Dichotomy : a war is a result of many complex problems. there is good and bad in both sides in the war. thus, it becomes difficult to choose which side to support. but Hollywood war film would over simplify complex situation in to a simple choice between good and evil: showing the USA as good and the enemy as bad, thus forcing audiences to support the USA in the war. this is also a bias that can be observed in most war movies. The 3 Hollywood films selected by the subject to analyze and identify the presence of the above parameters of justifications are: Full metal jacket Saving private Ryan Inglorious Basterds __________________________________________________________ Film 1 FULL METAL JACKET Short Introduction: this movie was produced during the 1987s. Directed and written by Stanley Kubrick, it is an adaptation of the novel The short Timers. The film follows a team/unit of US Marines through their training and the experiences that the 2 marines of the team in the Tet Offensive during the Vietnam War. The title of the movie refers to the full metal jacket bullet used by infantry riflemen. Analysis: The movie in its totality is astonishingly beautiful yet insane. It is an epic piece that shows the inglorious indignities of the war. There are numerous scenes that are violent and yet justified to be shown as per the thematic justification. In this, the theme of the movie or the background will show social disorder and loss of control in the country, and war is used as a way to bring peace and order to that country. Thus violence is justified as it is bringing social order and resulting in a positive outcome. There are numerous rape scenes, smoking, profanity, drug, nudity, intense explicit along with heavy gore violence. The movie tries to show that violence does not solve violence. Even though the absurd and explicit scenes throughout the movie depict portrayal of violence, the movie through these scenes tries to show the dark side of human behavior. Violence in the film can be seen when a couple of men are punched in the groin by the drill instructor. Also a man shooting his dri ll instructor in the chest, shows blood splattered all around the place, the shooting takes place due to the intense suffering and frustration they go through, followed by which he puts the gun in his own mouth and pulls the trigger. The movie in itself shows Violence as a necessary part of patriotism wherein in all soldiers of war are shown and praised as heroes in the movies. . The movie best captures the absurd dehumanization involved throughout the war and also through the training periods, endless pre battle waitings and the bloody cleanup after the violent war. The dialogues in the film also show the extent to which the opponents or the characters are verbally dehumanized through vulgarity and unspeakable racial dialogues. The movie depicts the dark side of human nature and dehumanization. There are themes of dehumanization and human evilness depicted throughout the movie through its gore violence. Full Metal jacket gives a chance to explore the dark side of human psyche and violent nature of humans. There is no limitation to the heroic play of ambition. War is considered as a platform to fight and show the manliness in one self. There is training to men who come from different background and socio economic status. Learning to fight is justifiable were in men fight to protect, be it from anything. This shows that fighting is considered manly, and going out to fight in the war is manliness. It is basically the rite of passage which shows the hero or the character will be shown as an irresponsible, carefree teenager who goes to war to fight and learns the lessons of life there. After fighting in battles, the boy comes back home as a wise and mature man. Thus violence is playing the role of a teacher, transforming juvenile boys into responsible citizens. And thus, violence is justified. The punch line of the movie in itself shows the characters (men) are born to kill ! This also in a way describes the Ideological justification involved in the film. Here the USA justified the violenc e and killing in war by providing ideological excuses such as we fight for the right to be free, we fight for democracy. Hence the war is justified by them as a reason to achieve something that they think is important. During the time of war, fighting was seen as a way of expressing your patriotism for your country and the violence involved in fighting was seen as necessary part of being patriotic. The intense violence in the film is thus justified in its portrayal and that it is a very important component to the film .The movie shows a lot of men dying. Be it from the opponents or the party themselves, a lot of bloodshed and yet fighting despite having lost every resources proves the patriotism involved. Fighting in the war is justified as fighting for the country. This itself shows killing and bloodshed is a part of their patriotism and right to fight for their concern. The intense bloodshed and negativity against the killers shows hatred against them and how killing them and plotting against them is justified. The movie makes us to think that there is a reason why this is happening and that the characters are doing what is right and what ought to be done. It is shown as good , the complexity in understanding the entire sphere to the film is simplified by just showing the character as superior, logical and having done something that is right and that needs to be justified whether one likes it or not . There is a sense of dichotomy involved. A war is a result of many complex problems. ___________________________________________________________________________ Film 2 SAVING PRIVATE RYAN The movie is a screen play by Robert Rodat, and directed by the famous Steven Spielberg. It is an epic World War II objective story. Analysis: This movie is very intense, has incredible violence, brutality, messiness and dark side involved in it. The most intense parts of the film are the battle scenes. The movie is all about a group of American soldiers in World War II, who are being appointed to find, hunt and bring back Private James Ryan who is supposedly fighting somewhere in the French country side. Through the search the movie depicts the various incidents that the men appointed for the mission encounters, which also leads to death of many of the men. This shows that fighting for a cause is justifiable. Thus the USA justified the violence and killing in war by providing ideological excuses such as we fight for the right to be free, we fight for democracy we fight for a reason etc. Hence the plot in itself ideologically justified what is featured. The film throughout contains clips that depict infliction of pain and serious physical harm which are lengthy, frequent and very gory in nature. The most notable one is that of the one in the opening shot of the film. The shots starts of with the US forces landing on the Omaha Beach on the D day, which is realistic in terms of the horror of war, the injuries and fatalities involved then ,the scene lasts for 25 min. Every man in the film is depicted either dying or dead. The injuries inflicted are horrible in nature. The most memorable are the scenes that involves a man holding on to his arm that is blown off in a bomb blast, a man who is still alive on the ground with his entrails spilling out and also a scene were a solider is dragging another injured solider to the beach only to realize when he turns back that he is dragging the feet of the solider which is blown off in the blast. Hence the very depiction of violence in the movie is justified. Thus, the most interesting character in the film is the sniper played by Barry Pepper, who calls on God for strength in shooting the enemy. Thus the film throughout shows dead bodies, bloody everywhere, bodily part scattered and sometimes making the audience disgusted to look at the gruesome projection of the dead soldiers from both the parties. This explains the extent of violence and bodily violence and gore that is projected in the film, is somewhere justified as part of dehumanization and hatred against the enemy. The mission and the hunt throughout the film show the patriotism they have towards their country and men of higher order. Thus the violence involved in the mission and their patriotism that keeps them driving despite the violence is commendable. all soldiers of war are shown and praised as heroes in the movies. thus during the time of war, fighting was seen as a way of expressing your patriotism for your country and the violence involved in fighting was seen as necessary part of being patriotic. The movie shows how the men are trained for the war, and how the new entry/freshers struggle with the lifestyle involved and that fighting for the country and putting up with the violence is not an easy task .It is a mans thing and requires strength and determination. The patriotism and the extent to which men fight and give up their lives for the country and higher personnels shows how men mature over a period of time and fighting in the war is manliness and changes their way of looking at life. It is a passage of rite. The war in the movie is a result of many complex problems, along with the search mission. There is good and bad in both sides to the war. Thus, it becomes difficult to choose which side to support. But the Hollywood war film would over simplify complex situation in to a simple choice between good and evil: showing the USA as good and the enemy as bad, thus forcing audiences to support the USA in the war. This is also a bias that can be observed in most war movies. The film shows how USA s off to rescue one of their men and how justifiable they are in everything that happens or that they do throughout their journey. There is a sense of over simplifying the dichotomy. It is left to the audience to perceive the right or wrong, but the projection done by the USA gives a glance into how they justify everything they do ___________________________________________________________________________ Film 3 INGLORIOUS BASTERDS The film is one of the best known war movies, which full violence to it. The film is visually graphic in terms of the explicitly involved in it. Violence in the movie is part of the war and in the fight mission to kill Nazis. Hence violence is justified as part of the war. There are very intense scenes like in the beginning were people are shot through the floorboards, there is bloody mist and a girl running covered in blood. The strangulation, scalping of the Nazis, beating the Nazi with a bat and a baseball hitting and cutting of throat, and scalp of the head are some the extreme violence openly displayed in the film. This also shows to the extent that enemy is dehumanized and alienated, there are scenes that show the extent to which they are treated as non humans where in someone shoots in the face multiple times and the skin is lifted off the face, these torture techniques show how the enemy is dehumanized. Also towards the end, the symbol of the swastika is craved on to Waltzs f orehead, symbolizing evil. All this denotes/ communicates human tragedy dehuman. All this shows how violence is justified and how patriotic they are in accomplishing their task through any means. The movie in itself lists a lot of propaganda that is used to get their motives. Scenes where they show, Lieutenant Aldo Raine ,who assembles a special unit of Jewish-American soldiers to get to their mission, standing on a heap of dead bodies with pride, shows victory, war and killing as celebration and how creating social order can gain back control. He represents the macho man who has set out on a war and achieved the purpose and thus justifying war as a rite of passage. A sense of thematic justification is seen in the film. Eg:In the teaser, Pitt tells his troop that they are going do one thing and only one thing which is killing the Nazis. And he states that they are going to be cruel as this will show them who they are in real. He asks his troops under him to get him at least 100 scalps. The movie justifies the violence and killing in war by providing ideological excuses such as we fight for the right to be free, we fight for democracy etc. The extent of cruelty can be seen here. In order to kill the Nazis, any means to achieve social order or their motive and control is adopted. In this, the theme of the movie or the background will show social disorder and loss of control in the country, and war is used as a way to bring peace and order to that country. Thus violence is justified as it is bringing social order and resulting in a positive outcome. Violence and hatred is shown at its peak here. The protagonist takes pleasure in the violence that is being undertaken. The film glories Vengeance, revenge, disrespect to humanity in every shot. The movie oversimplifies the dichotomy by proving that they are out there to kill Nazis and they are justified in killing their enemies in the most brutal way. They put across this in a way wherein they are the superior power who knows what steps need to be undertaken and in what way. But they put it across as the right, good way of how they have fought it out. Hence leaving the audience dazed with choice of their own to react how they feel like to the extent of cruelty and brutality that the movie depicts.

Analysis of The Sport of the Gods by Paul Essay -- The Sport of the Go

Analysis of The Sport of the Gods by Paul The book "The Sport of the Gods" by Paul is about an African American servant named Berry Hamilton who lived with Fannie and two kids, a son named Joe and daughter named Kit. They lived in a little cottage that sat in the back of the mansion of his employer Maurice Oakley. Berry had been a butler for Mr. Oakley for twenty years. Berry was a loyal and hard working man for Mr. Oakley. Mr. Oakley treated him with so much respect and gave him so much that Berry felt that he had no choice but to serve him the way he did. Mr. Oakley could always depend on Berry Hamilton, until the day that Francis Oakley noticed that he hadn't locked up the drawer where he hide his money. When he opened the drawer, praying that no one had took the money, to his surprise it was gone. Francis told his brother Maurice and after the party was over and everyone was gone they called a detective to find the missing money. While walking around the room the detective noticed Berry's cottage out of the window. He sa id that it was a possibility that Berry was the thief. Mr. Oakley couldn't believe what he was hearing. He had always trusted Berry and thought that he would never steal from him, especially after all that he had done for him.
